How Google brings me to you…

April 23, 2010

One of the most fascinating things about writing a blog (perhaps the only fascinating thing) is the window it opens into the world of Google searches.  On the statistics page of any blog you can see a list of Google search terms that people used to find you.

Now in my particular case, I’m betting 98% of these people were disappointed.  The “good” traffic a blog gets usually comes from people who subscribe to your  blog or click on a link from someone suggesting your blog.  The Google searches, well they tend to be people looking for someone else.

And what they’re looking for.  Well… it’s strange.  Often funny.  Sometimes terrifying.

The # 1 search term used to find my blog?

Guesses, anyone?

That’s right.

Less enjoyable than taxes???

April 12, 2010

With tax day quickly approaching I started to reflect about money.  How we choose to spend it, how we hope not to spend it.  What we enjoy spending it on and what we’re obligated to spend it on.  And I came to one conclusion–

It’s not the amount of money one departs with that causes pain and agony, it’s the level of satisfaction one gets in return that determines our financial angst.

Meaning:

Some things are just NO FUN to spend money on.

Congressional Republicans

March 23, 2010

MY GRADE: uuuurrrrrrrrr

So finally, we have a vote in the House of Representatives for Obama’s Health Care Reform bill:

219 — Yup!

212 — Naw!

And how many Republicans voted for the bill?

0

That’s right.  0.  This bill, apparently, was so reprehensible, so in-arguably soulkillingly, death panely, Socialistically Godlessly-awful that not even one measly Republican thought it was worth voting for. Read the rest of this entry »

Thoughts on the Tea Party Movement

March 17, 2010

It occurred to me the other day as I was sifting through this slide show of Tea Party protest signs that I didn’t really know much about the Tea Party movement.   From the beginning it’s always seemed a little fuzzy to me.  Were “Tea Baggers” just a bunch of kooks from the get-go or was it a sincere political movement that somehow managed to derail itself?

I mean, they claim to be libertarians, “social conservatives”, not Republicans — although suspiciously the movement  began during the first few weeks of the Obama administration. Read the rest of this entry »

New Potential Winter Olympic Sports

February 22, 2010

I thought it would be just too darned easy to write an entire blog entrry on how bafflingly unathletic and mundane Curling seems to the untrained eye.  I’ll let this small YouTube clip speak for itself (Okay, I lied.  I do need to say this — when sweeping a broom is the most strenuous part of your event, perhaps you’re not a sport.  When your “athletes” were born during the Great Depression, perhaps you’re not a sport.)

Here are some new sports I’d like to see replace Curling in 2014: Read the rest of this entry »

Chinese Panda Rentals

February 4, 2010

MY GRADE:

I promised myself I wouldn’t get upset.   I’ve always known that for some stupid reason (I’m going to blame Nixon, why not?) our deal with China has always been that we lease the Pandas, we can’t own them.  Even the ones that are born and bred in the United States must go back to China when they reach a certain age.

Obama’s First Year

January 25, 2010

MY GRADE:

This Wednesday is Obama’s 1st State of the Union address, 1 year and 5 days after taking the oath of office.

And America sits and wonders…

what do I think???

Well, Obama’s first year as president has been a mixed bag in my opinion.  A great deal of talk, not so much in terms of true accomplishment.  Say what you want about George W. Bush, when he was president stuff happened.  Lots of stuff.  Like terrorist attacks.  Devastating hurricanes. World-wide disdain for our country and way of life.

So…

The 10 LEAST Fascinating People of 2009

December 13, 2009

  • Tiger Woods’ 17 mistresses: From what I’ve gathered, these women only have two have two things in common. 1) No discernible personality or intellect and 2) vaginas.  (note: I realize my punctuation may confuse a few people.  Please reread before misinterpreting the number of genitalia each mistress has.  Thank you) Read the rest of this entry »
